In what could be considered a milestone in renewable energy auction, the UK government managed to get enough new electricity projects that can light up 11 million houses. The £1.5 billion effort supports 131 new wind, solar, and tidal power projects after a significant increase in funding by the government. This auction is expected to lower the energy prices for consumers while helping the UK to achieve its ambitious green energy goals by 2030.
However, despite the success, only half of the necessary future wind power station capacity was reached. Industry leaders gave high marks to the auction’s competitiveness, though they insisted that more actions from government are needed to hit the goal of making offshore wind power four times as big. The auction awarded contracts for 5GW of offshore wind 3.3GW of solar and several tidal power projects, marking good progress towards UK’s future with clean power.
